Day 1: TANGIER – TETOUAN – CHEFCHAOUEN
On the first day of our itinerary 10-day Grand Tour of Morocco, we depart from Tangier in the morning, heading towards Tetouan. Here, we will explore its medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The medina is completely walled, adorned with turrets, and crowned by the Alcazaba. We will also visit the Ensanche, or Spanish neighborhood, before continuing to Chefchaouen. In Chefchaouen, we will spend the night and have the entire afternoon to tour the old town, characterized by white and indigo houses. Its medina, crowned by a beautiful citadel in Uta el-Hamman Square, is located next to a river with waterfalls and laundries. The afternoon is free, and we will stay overnight.
Day 2: CHEFCHAOUEN – MOULAY IDRISS – VOLUBILIS – MEKNES
After breakfast, we will travel to Moulay Idriss, a cultural property recognized by UNESCO and an important pilgrimage center in Morocco. Next, we will visit Volubilis, a Roman site declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. Finally, we will arrive in Meknes, the most tranquil of the imperial cities and another World Heritage site. In Meknes, we will see the Bab Mansour gate, El Hedim Square, the old city, the Jewish quarter, and the city wall. Accommodation is provided.
Day 3: MEKNES – FEZ
In the morning, we will head to Fez, a stunning imperial city with a medina that is also a World Heritage site. You will have the day to explore the most beautiful parts of the city, including the medina, souks, tanneries, artisan neighborhoods, or you can hire a guide. Accommodation is included.
Day 4: FEZ – IFRANE – MIDELT – ERFOUD – MERZOUGA
We will start the day by leaving Fez in the morning, heading towards Ifrane, crossing the Middle Atlas and its national park. We continue towards Midelt, passing through the Ziz Valley until we reach Erfoud. From Erfoud, we proceed to Merzouga, where a dromedary ride awaits us. We will ride the dromedaries at sunset, reaching a desert camp where a fantastic dinner and a magical evening around a bonfire with Berber music and star gazing await us, weather permitting.
Day 5: MERZOUGA – KASBAHS – OUARZAZATE
In the morning, we will leave early to follow the route of a thousand kasbahs, making several stops to visit the most interesting ones. We will pass by the Valley of Roses and the large Skoura palm grove, arriving in Ouarzazate.
Day 6: OUARZAZATE – AIT BEN HADDOU – MARRAKECH
After breakfast, we will visit the famous Taourirt Kasbah and the Atlas Film Studios, the most important in Africa. Then, we will visit the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a World Heritage site. We will stop at strategic points for panoramic views of the High Atlas region before continuing to Marrakech. Accommodation is included.
Day 7: MARRAKECH
This day is free to explore Marrakech, an imperial city with many points of interest such as the Jamaa el Fna square, Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace, souks, and the Ben Youssef Madrasa. The medina of Marrakech has been a World Heritage site since 1985. Accommodation is provided.
Day 8: MARRAKECH – ESSAOUIRA – SAFI – OUALIDIA
After lunch, we will head to Essaouira, a beautiful and tranquil city with an impressive fortress overlooking the medina and citadel. Enjoy a stress-free walk through Essaouira’s picturesque medina, a World Heritage site. In the afternoon, we will continue to Safi, where we will visit the open medina by the sea, completely surrounded by an old Portuguese wall. We will then proceed to Oualidia for the night. Accommodation is included.
Day 9: OUALIDIA – EL JADIDA – CASABLANCA – RABAT
After breakfast and taking some photos of the clowns and the lagoon, we will leave for El Jadida, home to the old Mazagan fortress. This port city on the Moroccan Atlantic coast has been a World Heritage site since 2004, with treasures like the cistern, wall, and citadel. We will then head to Casablanca, where we will visit the Hassan II Mosque and the medina before arriving in Rabat. Accommodation is provided.
Day 10: RABAT – ASSILAH – TANGIER
In the morning, you will have time to explore Rabat, the capital of Morocco and the fourth imperial city, with treasures such as the Kasbah of the Udayas, the old medina, Hassan Tower, and the Royal Mausoleum, recently declared a World Heritage site. After visiting the city center, we will go to Chellah, an ancient archaeological site with Phoenician, Carthaginian, Roman, and Arab remains, accessed through an imposing medieval gate. In the afternoon, we will continue to Assilah, a beautiful walled coastal town with one of Morocco’s best-preserved small medinas.
